Erie County & Town of Eden Open New Industrial Park Roadway

August 18, 2008

Cooperation and coordination between county & town help improve infrastructure

Erie County Executive Chris Collins helped cut the ribbon on the newly constructed roadway leading to the Eden Industrial Park. Eden's Gal-Cor building, a former vacant cannery, has been turned into a 130,000 square foot industrial park.

The County contributed $300,000 in grant money to pay for the needed infrastructure improvements to the 600 feet of road leading from Route 62 to the building. The Town of Eden provided the labor with Town crews laying the new asphalt. Eden now owns the road and will be responsible for all future maintenance.

"The Eden Industrial Park roadway project is a great example of how governments can work together to move an entire community forward," said Erie County Executive Chris Collins. "In this case, Eden had a need and the manpower, and the County had the funding. In the end, our entire county has an easily accessible site for business growth and development. My administration is committed to building partnerships with local governments so together we can support economic opportunity and boost the local tax base."

"We greatly appreciate the support of Erie County in helping the Town of Eden upgrade the infrastructure of its business park," said Eden Supervisor Glenn Nellis. "It could not have been done without the County's help."

The Eden Industrial Park is home to Multy Industries, Inc. a Canadian based firm that produces household entry mats and rugs, often using recycled materials. From its Eden location, Multy Industries operates its Northeast US distribution center, generating $43 million in business and employing 15 people.

"This new roadway is benefiting Multy Industries greatly, as well as the Town of Eden," said John Tigue, Multy Industries Warehouse Manager. "It is now a pleasure to come to our warehouse compared to what the roadway was like before. Our employees' cars had been taking a beating, but now they enjoy driving the roadway to work. Multy Industries is willing to do whatever it takes to help the Town of Eden grow this industrial parkway."
